You pass through 5 Tunnels.

Maymorn to Featherston is ~39km. You pass through 5 Tunnels and finish at the Royal Hotel, a great place for a cold drink (Most popular)

Maymorn to Greytown is ~55km. You pass through 5 tunnels and will experience New Zealand’s longest suspension bridge across the Tauherenikau River. Along the way there is native bush and pretty rivers with great signage that provide excellent historical information.

You descend from the Remutaka Summit Rail Yards to Cross Creek in Wairarapa on a steeper trail. It is still wide and well formed. Toward the bottom of the hill is a section of single track that some riders choose to dismount for parts of – it is easy riding with a couple of rough areas.

Riders can choose to use the road or off road trail to make their way into Featherston.

If you choose to continue to Greytown, expect quiet country roads and groomed cycle paths – marvel at the longest Suspension bridge in New Zealand.

What to bring

Comfortable clothes for cycling (no jeans!) that are suitable for the weather conditions.

Wind/waterproof jacket.

Shoes with closed in toes.

Water bottle (we can supply filtered water), we prefer not to supply single use water bottles, but can if you don’t have your own water bottle.

Cycling gloves, we have some available for sale if you don’t have your own.

Lunch -we supply some snack bars – but you may wish to have more food with you.

[/et_pb_toggle][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.22.2″ custom_padding=”10px|0px|10px|0px” border_color_all=”#4646c4″ border_width_bottom=”3px” border_color_bottom=”#c89617″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ header_2_font=”|700|||||||” header_2_font_size=”28px” global_colors_info=”{}”]

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.21.2″ header_2_font=”|700|||||||” header_2_font_size=”28px” global_colors_info=”{}”]

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_4,3_4″ disabled_on=”on|on|on” admin_label=”Timing and speaker” _builder_version=”4.22.2″ custom_padding=”40px|0px|40px|0px” animation_style=”slide” animation_direction=”bottom” border_color_all=”#e1e3e5″ border_width_top=”1px” disabled=”on” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_blurb title=”9.30 am – 11.30 am” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”}||divi||400″ icon_color=”#a9aab7″ icon_placement=”left” image_icon_width=”24px” _builder_version=”4.18.1″ header_font=”|||on|||||” header_font_size=”14px” header_letter_spacing=”1px” header_line_height=”24px” body_font=”||||||||” custom_margin=”||10px||false|false” link_option_url_new_window=”on” icon_font_size=”24px” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb title=”TBA” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”||divi||400″ icon_color=”#a9aab7″ icon_placement=”left” image_icon_width=”24px” _builder_version=”4.18.1″ header_font=”|||on|||||” header_font_size=”14px” header_letter_spacing=”1px” header_line_height=”24px” body_font=”||||||||” custom_margin=”||10px||false|false” link_option_url_new_window=”on” icon_font_size=”24px” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb title=”Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter” url=”https://www.transportworld.co.nz/” use_icon=”on” font_icon=”||divi||400″ icon_color=”#a9aab7″ icon_placement=”left” image_icon_width=”24px” _builder_version=”4.18.1″ header_font=”|||on|||||” header_font_size=”14px” header_letter_spacing=”1px” header_line_height=”24px” body_font=”||||||||” custom_margin=”||10px||false|false” link_option_url_new_window=”on” icon_font_size=”24px” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.18.1″ custom_margin=”||20px|” global_colors_info=”{}”]

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”Members of CSNZ have been given the opportunity to tour New Zealand’s only Aluminium Smelter located on Tiwai Peninsula, across the harbour from Bluff. ” closed_toggle_background_color=”#ffffff” icon_color=”#5c5a06″ open_icon_color=”#5c5a06″ disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.18.1″ title_font=”||||||||” title_font_size=”18px” title_line_height=”1.5em” min_height=”250px” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding=”0px|0px|0px|0px” border_width_all=”0px” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]

This is your only chance to see a working aluminium smelter in action, this is thanks to Don Moir from Ralph Moir Limited. Don is very familiar with the smelter as he regularly visits to survey the Alumina and Coke Stores – both by-products of Aluminium, as well as performing Spent Cell Lining surveys and Bore Surveys.

 If you are interested, please email Wendy; CSNZ@surveyspatialnz. Keynote speaker – Claudia Batten

What High Performance Innovation looks like

In 2002, Claudia arrived jobless in NYC having left her corporate law career in New Zealand. Since then she has been on the founding team of two start ups which both had exits. First was Massive, a gaming ad network which was sold to Microsoft in 2006. Then Victors & Spoils where we pioneered crowdsourcing in an advertising agency. Havas acquired a majority stake in the agency in 2012.

Claudia is also a recent winner of the World Class New Zealand Supreme Award – the youngest recipient to date at 39 years old.

Her wins could have easily been losses without the belief that bad days bring out my “inner street fighter” Ultimately Claudia embraces life as a journey, and a very personal one.

She swears she’ll never fit a cookie cutter but who does? Be brave in accepting that life is not perfect and that challenges may arise at the weirdest of times but that only means that there is infinite potential to grow in any direction you wish. If you dare to ride the wave.

Depart from Martinborough 9.30am (please arrive at our base by 9.15am)

Our shuttle goes through Featherston, where we collect riders from the Fell Locomotion Museum on Lyon Street, then across the hill to our first drop point.

Drop 1) Maymorn Station

This is our most popular and recommended start point for a one day ride on the Remutaka Cycle Trail.

Maymorn to Cross Creek is ~25km.

Finish with a cool beer on the deck of The Whiteswan Country Hotel, a Wairarapa icon.

Drop 2) Kaitoke

Kaitoke is a popular starting point for locals who drive with their own cars – often it is busy and crowded.

Starting at Kaitoke reduces the distances above by about 7km, and cuts out two short, sharp inclines.

What to expect

We start with a shuttle from Martinborough to Maymorn that takes around 40-60 minutes, depending on pick-ups.

From Maymourn you start with a short sharp incline, but the majority of the trail ascends with an easy 1:30 gradient.

You pass through up to 5 tunnels during the ride and may cross two spectacular swing bridges.
